Hey, guys! I don't know if I've ever mentioned this before (although you may already know if you're following me on Twitter @JustMaddyBlog), but I'm completely obsessed with Taylor and her music! Therefore, I'm very excited about her new album being released. I watched so many interviews where she was talking about how much this abum means to her and how hard she's been working on it, so I had no doubt it was going to be crazy good. And it totally lived up to my expectations. I know some people have been rather conflicted about whether or not her making a pop album is a good thing, but I, personally, think it's amazing that she's trying something new and just growing as an artist. Okay, enough with my ranting, let's get to business. |
Welcome to New York
"Like any great love,
It keeps you guessing."
It keeps you guessing."
I think this is a great opening track for this album. It's upbeat, fun and it makes you want to dance. The lyrics are on point (as usual). I love the fact that it speaks about her experience moving to New York. It must be very exciting for her to be in such a lively city. I wish I could go there, too. *sigh* BUT this is not about me, let's move on.
Blank Space
"Look at that face
You look like my next mistake."
You look like my next mistake."
OH MY GOD. I love this song SO much. The lyrics are so exciting and sassy and UGH - I love them. This song makes me feel young and reckless. It doesn't even matter that I'm stuck in bed with a cold, I want to call my friends and go on a road trip NOW.
Style
"'Cause you've got that James Dean daydream look in your eyes
And I've got that red lip classic thing that you like"
And I've got that red lip classic thing that you like"
I think this is one of my favourite songs off 1989, just because it is so cheeky and it speaks of such an adventurous, fun relationship. I also like that you can tell that this song is written from a strong, independent woman's perspective, because that's what Taylor has become and I'm so proud of her.
Out of the Woods
"We were built to fall apart,
Then fall back together."
Then fall back together."
Taylor said in an interview that this is one of her favourite songs off the album and I can see why. What I really love about it is the whole metaphor surrounding it. After all, Tay herself said that metaphors and cats are all she ever thinks about - we have that in common.
All You Had to Do Was Stay
"I've been picking up the pieces of the mess you made."
Another song that I really like. I think it's full of emotion without being sulky or anything like that. Once again, an optimistic approach to what seems like a rather painful break up.
Shake It Off
"I'm dancing on my own,
I make the moves up as I go,
And that's what they don't know."
I make the moves up as I go,
And that's what they don't know."
Can we just take a moment to remember: "Some day, I'll be living in a big ol' city and all you're ever gonna be is MEAN". Well, there you go. After all this time, she's finally SHAKING IT THE EFF OFF. Peace.
I Wish You Would
"Wish I'd never hung up the phone like I did."
This song tells the story of fear, of "what if"s and of unspoken words. I think it's extremey relatable.
Bad Blood
"Band-aids don't fix bullet holes."
This song is Ed Sheeran's favourite, guys. So, naturally, the lyrics are incredible. I just love it to pieces. It feels so real and emotional, but, again, coming from a very good place. I think this is an era of self preservation and emotional balance and confidence and independence and lots of other good things.
Wildest Dreams
"He's so tall and handsome as hell,
He's so bad, but he does it so well."
He's so bad, but he does it so well."
I think this is one of the more emotional songs off the album. I can sense a lot of sensibility, maybe even fragility when I listen to it and it's nice that Taylor was able to fit this side of herself in her music as well.
How You Get the Girl
"I want you for worse or for better,
I would wait forever and ever,
Broke your heart, I'll put it back together."
I would wait forever and ever,
Broke your heart, I'll put it back together."
Guys, take notes. THIS is how you get the girl. I just hope whoever she wrote this song for learned his lesson. Enough said.
This Love
"This love is good,
This love is bad,
This love is a life back from the dead."
This love is bad,
This love is a life back from the dead."
This is a classic Taylor Swift ballad. It's sweet, it's delicate and it gives me THE FEELS. The lyrics are so deep and you can really tell how much emotion there is behind them.
I Know Places
"They are the hunters,
We are the foxes."
We are the foxes."
Another one of my favourites. I love the meaning hidden behind the lyrics. I've always loved a good forbidden love story.
Clean
"You're still all over me like a wine stained dress I can't wear anymore."
This song talks about a healing process - a purge, even. I especially like the comparison Taylor makes between this relationship and an alcohol addiction ("10 months sober"). I just think it sums everything up perfectly. No explanation needed here.
Wonderland
"We found Wonderland,
You and I got lost in it."
You and I got lost in it."
Once again, beautiful metaphor, sick beat, amazing lyrics. Everything you could expect from the lovely Taylor Swift.
You Are In Love
"You keep his shirt,
He keeps his word."
He keeps his word."
This song gives me goosebumps. It really captures the feeling of being in love. I think a lot of people can relate to this.
New Romantics
"We show off our different scarlet letters,
Trust me, mine is better."
Trust me, mine is better."
These lyrics - PURE GENIUS. I just want to quote this song for the rest of my life. I want it hanging off my walls and inked on my skin. I want it everywhere. I love it that much.
This is it, guys. I absolutely adore this album. I really hope you enjoyed reading my review, because I worked really hard on it. Tell me what you think of the album in the comment box!
