She Looks So Perfect
"If you don't swim, you'll drown
But don't move, honey."
But don't move, honey."
This is the band's first single. I think both the song and the music video represent them somehow. 5SOS is a fun, quirky, edgy band. They're young and they've gone from filming themselves singing covers in their bedrooms to being signed by a record company in 2.5 seconds, all thanks to their hard work and determination. They're living the dream. And they look SO perfect while doing it.
Don't Stop
"You're like perfection, some kind of holiday
You got me thinking that we could run away
You want I'll take you there,
You tell me when and where."
You got me thinking that we could run away
You want I'll take you there,
You tell me when and where."
The way I see it, this song is about a girl that everybody wants. And although it's frustrating, it's impossible not to like it. So the guys do everything in their power to win her heart, as long as she doesn't stop.
Good Girls
"Forget what you thought
'Cause good girls are bad girls that haven't been caught.
So just turn around and forget what you saw
'Cause good girls are bad girls that haven't been caught."
'Cause good girls are bad girls that haven't been caught.
So just turn around and forget what you saw
'Cause good girls are bad girls that haven't been caught."
Words cannot express how much I love this song. Apart from the fact that the beat is absolutely sick and it gets me jumping around my bedroom like a crazy person every time I hear it, the message is what makes it so good. I know the theme isn't really new to the public, but I just really like the way the boys managed to portray it. I think the only thing I love more than the chorus, though, is the way Michael says "That's where you'll find me" in the high-pitched, girly voice. Hilarious!
Kiss Me Kiss Me
"Tell the truth and I'll show you how to dare."
Yet another song that makes you want to jump up and down. This is actually the first song I've heard by 5SOS, apart from the first two singles ("She Looks So Perfect" and "Don't Stop") and all I could think about while listening to it was "Hey, I really like this band. This band makes me happy."
The boys said the song is about the people that get on the "5SOS bus" that they would like to spend more time with, but, unfortunately, the bus has to carry on without them. They also mentioned that the only people that stay on the bus forever are the four of them (aw bromance).

18
"She’s got a naughty tattoo,
In a place that I want to get to,
But my mom still drives me to school."
In a place that I want to get to,
But my mom still drives me to school."
Have you ever been in love with someone older than you? The boys of 5SOS certainly have. And they wrote a song about it! What I love about this song is that, somehow, it manages to be both funny and sad at the same time. Funny, because of the oh-so-brilliant lyrics. Kind of sad, because of the situation the poor guy(s) who wrote this song is (are?) in. "She told me to meet her there, I can't afford the bus fare". Young...and broke. Finally, can we please talk about the way Luke sings "18" at the end of the song? SO GOOD.
Everything I Didn't Say
"Holding onto a broken and empty heart."
This song gives me the chills. It manages to express sadness, regret and desire without turning into one of those sappy ballads that ruins your life and makes you want to crawl under the blanket and fill the (now empty) ice cream bucket with tears. It's also very catchy. I can't get it out of my head.
Beside You
"She sleeps alone.
My heart wants to come home.
I wish I was, I wish I was beside you."
My heart wants to come home.
I wish I was, I wish I was beside you."
This song makes me feel. I don't like feeling. It hurts.
In spite of this fact, I'm addicted to this song. It's just SO beautiful. I'm speechless.

End Up Here
"You walked in
Everyone was asking for your name
You just smiled
And told them <<trouble>>"
Everyone was asking for your name
You just smiled
And told them <<trouble>>"
In my opinion, this song is about a love that's so crazy and spontaneous and intense that it just feels like one big, amazing adventure. And then things finally slow down and you wake up and you realize that somehow, God knows how, you managed to end up with this incredible person who's way out of your league and all you can think about is "How did we end up here?".
Long Way Home
"Now we’re stuck in the middle of nowhere
Yeah, you know we took our time to get there."
Yeah, you know we took our time to get there."
I think this is actually my favourite 5SOS song. I couldn't exactly tell you why. First of all, I think the lyrics are just brilliant. It's also very catchy. But the thing that makes me love this song so much is probably the fact that I just get a really good vibe from it. It just makes me happy. I think it has this effect on most people, because when the boys talked about it, you could just tell that they were very pleased with it. Michael and Ashton (who co-wrote it) were jumping in their seats!
Heartbreak Girl
"But you're not ready and it's so frustrating
He treats you so bad and I'm so good to you, it's not fair."
He treats you so bad and I'm so good to you, it's not fair."
This song is about a girl who is in love with a guy who doesn't love her back anymore and who doesn't treat her right. She cries on the shoulder of a boy who is madly in love with her himself. Because she is so hurt by what's going on with her ex-boyfriend, she friendzones the poor boy, ignoring the fact that she could be so much happier with him. What a wonderfully tragic love story!
English Love Affair
"The way she looked was so ridiculous
Every single step had me waiting for the next."
Every single step had me waiting for the next."
Another one of my favourites. The song is about a fairly short, but very intense love affair, that leaves the guy unable to move on. I think what draws to me to it is not necessarily the storyline (although I do appreciate the lyrics very much), but the music itself. I just think it's amazing. And although I don't usually pick favourites, I have to say that I enjoy Michael's solos just a little bit too much every time I listen to this song.
Amnesia
"I wish that I could wake up with amnesia
And forget about the stupid little things
Like the way it felt to fall asleep next to you
And the memories I never can escape."
And forget about the stupid little things
Like the way it felt to fall asleep next to you
And the memories I never can escape."
This song is so beautiful and meaningful. It honestly makes me emotional (and I don't get emotional very often). My only problem is that, although I do enjoy the music video, I don't feel like it suits the song very well. I think that the lyric video managed to capture its essence a lot better.
Social Casualty
"So save me from who I'm supposed to be
Don't wanna be a victim of authority
I'll always be a part of the minority"
Don't wanna be a victim of authority
I'll always be a part of the minority"
I find this song very empowering. It has a very strong, serious message and the boys manage to put it across very well. The way I see it, this song expresses rebellion and strenght of character. I like to think that it portrays our generation.
Never Be
"We'll never be as young as we are now
It's time to leave this old black & white town
Let's seize the day, let's run away
Don't let the colours fade to grey."
It's time to leave this old black & white town
Let's seize the day, let's run away
Don't let the colours fade to grey."
We are young and we love each other. This is all that matters. Let's run away together and live our life the way we want to, without any limits. All we have right now is this moment. Let's make the best of it.
This is what goes through my mind when I listen to this song. It makes me want to do great things. I find it equally romantic and motivational.

Voodoo Doll
"Won't you please stop loving me to death?"
This song is about that person that you love and hate at the same time. They're the best and worst thing that's ever happened to you. And it seems impossible to be with them, but you sure as hell can't be without them either. They make you furious and frustrated, but, at the same time, when they leave, you feel like you've lost a part of yourself and it's nearly impossible to move on. It's the kind of love that I would describe as consuming.
Green Light
"It's such a sick obsession,
And now you've got the best of me.
I've got the worst intentions,
So call me over and set me free."
And now you've got the best of me.
I've got the worst intentions,
So call me over and set me free."
I think this song tells the story of a boy who meets his dream girl. And he wants to be as close to her as possible. She has complete control over him. Still, she doesn't give in, making him desperate for her. Finally, the boy impatiently asks her to give him the green light, to give him permission to make her his ("All you gotta do is tell me right now, you want me right now, come on.").
