Hey, guys!
Today, I thought I'd talk to you about the most amazing YA series ever: Night School, by CJ Daugherty.
I have to say that I get quite angry with myself every time I realize that I could have discovered it a long time ago. Every time I entered my local library (which was a lot), this is what would go down: it would stare at me from the top shelf and I would stare right back. I would walk past it several times, feigning indifference. Then, finally, my curiosity would take over and I would take the book in my hands, turn it over and read the description. I would think to myself "Hmm sounds cool" and then...I WOULD PUT IT DOWN. Every. Single. Time.
Don't look at me.
BUT then, one day, I decided to buy the book as a birthday present for a friend of mine. She is an absolute book lover, much like myself. She started reading it right away and she loved it so much that she just couldn't put it down. She used to take it to school with her every single day and spend all the breaks (and most classes...oops) reading. Of course, I was intrigued. So as soon as she was done, it was my turn to have it. And then I was obsessed. I don't even remember going to school that day. I went from page 1 to page 300 with the speed of light. I feel like I devoured that book. Of course I had to get Legacy, Fracture and Resistance ASAP. And of course it didn't take me more than a week to read them, too.
But the series wasn't over when I reached the last page. Not for me. From the moment I opened my eyes in the morning to when I closed them at night, Night School was all I could think about. Not only that, it was all I could talk about as well. Basically, if someone had even the slightest interaction with me, then they knew exactly who Allie Sheridan was (and just how many shades of blue Sylvain's eyes could turn into).
Now, moving on to what the books are actually about...

Now, moving on to what the books are actually about...
Allie Sheridan’s world is falling apart. Her brother’s run away from home.
Her parents ignore her.
And she’s just been arrested.
Again.
This time her parents have had enough. They cut her off from her friends and send her away to
boarding school, far from her London friends.
But at Cimmeria Academy, Allie is soon caught up in the strange activities of a secret group of elite students.
When she’s attacked late one night the incident sets off a chain of increasingly violent events. As the school begins to seem like a very dangerous place, she finds out that nothing at Cimmeria is what it seems to be.
And that she is not who she thought she was.
There you go. I know you are now desperate to grab a copy yourselves, but bear with me for just a little longer.
There are so many things I love about Night School. For example, I love the way CJ Daugherty writes. She just has a way with words. The plot is absolutely incredible. I love how it is so original and unpredictable. I also love how well she is able to combine romance and action. I feel like, in most books, there isn't any balance between the two. The book is either too sappy or too eventful. Not the case here. But I think that what I love most about this series is the fact that all characters are so complex and so real.
Allie Sheridan is, in my opinion, someone so many young people can relate to. Apart from the unusual circumstances she finds herself in, she is pretty much the typical teenager. She acts out. She feels ignored by her parents. Misunderstood. Insecure, even. She suffers from anxiety and panic attacks. She is as confused by boys and relationships as any girl. But I think what makes her so great is the fact that she is able to overcome all these things and be brave and determined. To me, she is such an inspiration. It has been amazing to watch her grow in each book.
Carter West has quite the reputation. He starts out as the resident bad boy. Many students diss him for leading girls on and then breaking their hearts. He isn't very nice to Allie at first, but as time passes, they become friends. Throughout the first book, she discovers that there is so much more to him than his sarcasm and wit. He has had a very rough childhood, which explains his issues with trust and love. Despite all of this, he manages to let Allie in and they develop a wonderful relationship, which is sometimes threatened by his jealousy and possessiveness.
Sylvain Cassel is a gorgeous Frenchman with piercing blue eyes and jet black hair. As Jo once said, he is "sex on legs". The author never misses a chance to describe the way his lovely accent caresses every word that comes out of his sensual mouth, making it sound elegant and sophisticated. In fact, these two words - elegant and sophisticated - describe Sylvain very well. It's no surprise that he manages to sweep Allie off her feet during her first week at Cimmeria, with his good looks and a mysterious attitude to top everything off. Still, nobody is perfect. He makes a terrible mistake and finds himself desperately trying to make up for it.
I could talk about this series forever, but I think it would be best if you simply ordered a copy yourselves. All there's left for me to say is that I absolutely LOVE Night School and that I strongly recommend it to all of you! I can't think of any reason why anyone would love it any less than I do.
And don't forget to check out the author's website (www.cjdaugherty.com). You can find all sorts of cool stuff there (the extras are my favourite part!).
